Junior Squash Survey Results
Juniors who completed the survey were aged 6-19. The best way to contact Juniors is by Email or Home phone, but many are also using Mobile phones, SMS and Facebook. Most of the surveyed Juniors are already enjoying Squash and would like to play at least weekly Juniors prefer a causal game of Squash but a weekly competition and coaching are also very popular. There is only luke warm interest in a Squash tournament at the weekend. The best time for Juniors to play Squash is clearly on Tuesday afternoons after school. Early mornings and weekends are not popular. Music is the most popular improvement for the Milawa Squash courts. Getting the pool table operational, adding a down-ball court and a table tennis table are also very popular. Other suggestions included using video as a coaching aid, and opening the courts one night a week for casual games and socializing. |

Junior Squash starts next week
Junior Squash starts again next week on Friday 13th at 4pm. This is a great opportunity for youngsters to try a new sport, or get back into it. Squash is great fun and arguably the healthiest sport. On Friday the youngsters will have a chance to pick up a squash racquet for the first time. Coaching will be available from stronger players who started as Juniors years ago. Each Junior will be graded and included in a competition over the coming weeks if they choose. There is more information here, or any questions to info@milawasquash.org |
Elite Squash Exhibition Matches and Coaching Clinics
The series features Matthew Karwalski and
Rex Hedrick, currently ranked 4 and 5 in Australia, full time professionals on
the world squash circuit and members of the Australian Commonwealth Games Team.
This is an opportunity to showcase squash at its highest level – how the game
can be played. Inevitably, such exhibitions inspire young people, whether they
are already playing squash or totally new to the game.
The series is being held at three venues:
Start time is 7:30pm.
Admission: Attendance at Corowa is free, while a nominal $5.00 charge applies at Commercial Club. However, a number of free tickets are available to schools for students (see below for how to register for these).
Draw Prize (CCA June 3rd only ): To add some interest, a draw will be made on the night for a prize of 15 minutes on court with one of the professionals. So, if anyone wishes to be considered for the prize, they should bring their squash gear.
Coaching Clinic: Attendees are also welcome to watch the coaching clinic being held immediately prior to the exhibition. Rex and Matthew will be passing on invaluable tips on training, diet and other aspects of improving one’s game.
Chat with the Professionals: Following the exhibition, the players are available to mix and chat with spectators. Finger food is being provided at CCA.
So, if there is a venue and date that is suitable, you are welcome to organise a group to attend – or students can go along individually.
Registering for Free CCA Student Tickets for Exhibition: Go to https://squash.eventarc.com/23549/ and register. Your ticket may be printed immediately as well as being emailed to you. |
